Full focus on Bayern

The home win against Hamburg has given VfB momentum as they turn their attention to the trip to Bayern Munich this weekend. Jeff Chabot looks ahead to the match.

The 4-0 home victory over Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga last Sunday left the boys from Cannstatt with a spring in their step. There was a positive and focused atmosphere in training on Wednesday as preparations for the visit to leaders Bayern Munich continued.

Among the keys to the team’s successful run at present has been their collective defensive work. “One of our priorities is to keep a clean sheet in as many games as possible,” said Jeff Chabot. “If we manage that then it increases our chances of winning.”

The centre-back leads by example in terms of commitment, tackling and mentality – but he is far from the only one. “We have a lot of players who are good in the duels in our team, and we push each other.”

Chabot: “Bayern are currently the best team in Europe”

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß is harnessing the momentum gained from the HSV game to prepare his charges for the next challenge. Chabot is already pumped up for the match at Bayern, who currently have a 12-point lead at the Bundesliga summit, on Sunday 19 April (kick-off 17:30 CEST).

“In my opinion, Bayern are currently the best team in Europe,” said the 28-year-old. “We know it’ll be a very tough game, but we nevertheless want to compete with them.”
