There was a focus on fitness for the VfB squad in their first training session of the week, which was watched by countless fans as the team continued preparations for their opening Bundesliga game of the season at 1. FC Union Berlin on Saturday 23 August (kick-off 15:30 CEST).
Record-setting encounter
“It’s great that the season is finally getting started and I’m really looking forward to this away game,” said Jamie Leweling, who laced his boots for Union in 2022/23 before his move to VfB.
“Unfortunately I missed our last game at the Alte Försterei, where it seemed like every chance was a goal in a crazy 4-4 draw.” Indeed, that match set a new Bundesliga record; it was the first time since the league’s founding in 1963 that eight goals had been scored in a first half.
“This time we want to go home with all three points,” Leweling continued, having scored VfB’s goal on Saturday evening in the 2-1 Supercup defeat against Bayern Munich.
Sebastian Hoeneß’s men will make the most of the rest of the week to fine-tune their preparations as they eye a successful start to their 2025/26 league campaign.
