“We want to build on recent results together”

Jeff Chabot returns to the scene of his first Bundesliga goal this weekend, but that’s not the only reason why the defender is looking forward to Saturday’s trip to Borussia Dortmund – the first of VfB’s final set of fixtures before the end of the year.

As part of a defence that has conceded only 12 league goals so far this season – the third best record in the division behind Bayern Munich (six) and Borussia Dortmund (seven) – Jeff Chabot has played a major role in VfB’s successful campaign so far. In this interview, Chabot looks ahead to the upcoming trip to Dortmund on Saturday 22 November (kick-off 15:30 CET), reflects on his first Bundesliga goal and reveals how he made the most of the recent international break.

Jeff, you were able to have a few days’ rest during the international break. How did you manage to recharge the batteries?

Jeff Chabot: “It was good to be able to spend a little more time with my family and recharge the batteries that way. We were also given a few exercises and a programme to maintain our rhythm on our ‘days off’.”

Defender Jeff Chabot:

You don’t need any extra motivation to play against BVB.

Preparations for Saturday’s game against Dortmund are in full swing. What’s the mood like in the camp at the moment?

Jeff Chabot: “There’s a lot of joy in training – the atmosphere is really good. The international players are coming back from international duty and returning to training. Together, we’re preparing for our next Bundesliga assignment and our next block of fixtures. We know what we’re capable of and want to build on our recent results together.”

BVB and VfB are third and fourth respectively with 21 points each. Does playing your direct rivals give you extra motivation?

Jeff Chabot: “You don’t need any extra motivation to play against BVB. It’s always special to play in Dortmund and, ideally, deliver a really good performance and be part of a thrilling match. We succeeded in doing that last season. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of VfB fans in Dortmund again to support us.”

A lot of fans will remember your winning goal in VfB’s 2-1 victory on their last visit to Dortmund. How do you look back on that game in February 2025?

Jeff Chabot: “It’s definitely a game I remember fondly. I scored my first Bundesliga goal in that match and we were able to celebrate the win together at the end of 90 tough minutes. It was a very special moment. I’m already looking forward to the game.”
