Nartey makes debut as trio reach finals

Atakan Karazor, Ermedin Demirovic and debutant Nikolas Nartey are just one win away from a place at the World Cup after victories with their respective countries in the play-off semi-finals.

The dream of a place among the participants in this year’s World Cup is still alive for Nikolas Nartey and the Danish national team. The VfB midfielder made his debut for the senior side as an 86th-minute substitute in the 4-0 win against North Macedonia on Thursday night. The Danes now meet Czechia in Prague on Tuesday 31 March (20:45 CET) in the play-off finals.

Türkiye are also just one step away from a first World Cup appearance since 2002 after a 1-0 over Romania in their play-off semi-final in Istanbul, with VfB captain Atakan Karazor not involved. They now play Kosovo in the final in Pristina on Tuesday (20:45 CEST).

It is the same story for Ermedin Demirovic and Bosnia-Herzegovina, who beat Wales 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Cardiff. Demirovic played the full 120 minutes for the Bosnians, who host Italy in Zenica for a place in the final tournament, that clash also taking place at 20:45 CEST on Tuesday.

Win and draw for German youngsters

Germany U19s drew 2-2 against Sweden in qualifying for this summer’s European Under-19 Championship in Wales. VfB goalkeeper Florian Hellstern was in goal for the 90 minutes, while Mirza Catovic came on in the 72nd minute for his international debut.

Finally, Noah Darvich and Max Herwerth were victorious in a friendly with the German U20 team in a friendly against Czechia on Thursday. Darvich netted the winning goal to make it 2-1 in the 63rd minute, while Herwerth made a brief appearance late on.
