Deniz Undav’s five favourite goals

After the forward netted his 50th competitive goal for VfB, he picks out his top five, while highlighting his team-mates’ contributions.

It is a special achievement – and one that does not come around very often. With his strike to make it 1-0 against Wolfsburg, Deniz Undav netted his 50th competitive goal for VfB Stuttgart, moving him into the club’s all-time top 15 goalscorers since the Bundesliga was founded in 1963.

The striker reached the milestone in exactly 104 appearances. “I’ve felt a lot of love at VfB from day one,” said the forward, who has been at the club since the summer of 2023. “This achievement wouldn’t be possible without my team-mates,” he added, having reached the landmark for a club for the first time in his career.

These are Deniz’s top five goals.

17 September 2024, UEFA Champions League, league phase: Real Madrid 3-1

“The goal against Real Madrid is definitely one of my highlights. Playing in the Champions League with VfB, scoring what was the equaliser at the time at the Bernabéu, celebrating with my team-mates and fans – those were all indescribable experiences. Even though we ended up losing the game, it’s still a very special one for me.”

24 May 2025, DFB Cup final: VfB 4-2 Arminia Bielefeld

“This one has to be in my top five. It was a great game in front of a huge crowd. My goal made it 3-0 and I won my first trophy with VfB.”

26 October 2025, Bundesliga Matchday 8: VfB 2-1 Mainz

“I can still clearly remember the build-up to this goal. Alex Nübel played me in with a long ball forward and then I dinked it over the goalkeeper into the net. It was my first goal after my medial ligament injury and also the winner.”

6 November 2025, UEFA Europa League, league phase: VfB 2-0 Feyenoord

“Scoring in Europe is always special, which is why my goal to make it 2-0 against Feyenoord is on this list. It was my first goal in the Europa League, and that’s why I have fond memories of it.”

22 November 2025, Bundesliga Matchday 11: Borussia Dortmund 3-3 VfB

“This was a crazy game, it was constantly end to end. We came back from 2-0 down in Dortmund and I managed to score a hat-trick in the second half. It was incredible.”

Undav’s 50 goals have been spread out across the following competitions: 41in the Bundesliga, five in the DFB Cup, two in the UEFA Europa League, and one each in the UEFA Champions League and the DFL Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
