VfB Stuttgart will meet Bundesliga 2 side Eintracht Braunschweig in the DFB Cup first round. The draw was made on Sunday evening for the first round, which will be played between 15 and 18 August. However, because VfB are contesting their first competitive fixture of the season in the 2025 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against FC Bayern Munich on Saturday 16 August, their cup tie will take place on 26 or 27 August.
VfB board member for sport Fabian Wohlgemuth gave his reaction:
“As the Bundesliga club and especially as DFB Cup holders, we certainly go into the meeting with Eintracht Braunschweig as favourites. At the same time, there’s no shortage of examples in the history of this competition where the underdogs have surpassed themselves. We will therefore approach the task with great seriousness and we know we’ll need a very good performance to get through in Braunschweig.”
