Anrie Chase moves to Salzburg

The 21-year-old defender leaves VfB after three years, moving to Austrian league runners-up Red Bull Salzburg with immediate effect.

Anrie Chase is leaving VfB Stuttgart to sign with Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga. The Japan U23 international joined VfB’s U21s in summer 2022 and went on to make 46 appearances for the club at all levels. During his time in Stuttgart, he played in the Bundesliga, the UEFA Champions League and the DFB Cup.

“Anrie’s path with us certainly was impressive, moving up from the youth ranks to play in the DFB Cup, the Bundesliga and the Champions League,” said Fabian Wohlgemuth, VfB board member for sport. “He earned the progress he made by working really hard and being keen to learn. We would like to thank him for the time he spent with us and wish him all the very best and every success for the future.”

From Regionalliga to Champions League

Chase’s first highlight with the club came in the 2023/24 season, when he helped the U21s to win the Regionalliga Südwest and gain promotion to the third division. The defender then made the step up into head coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s first-team squad, going on to make 20 appearances at that level in the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the Champions League. He scored his maiden first-team goal in the DFB Cup round of 16 in the 3-0 win away to Jahn Regensburg, having scored two and set up another three for the U21s.

VfB would like to thank Anrie Chase for his commitment to the club and wish him all the best for the future.
