“Analyse the game with cool heads”

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß, captain Atakan Karazor and goalscorer Ermedin Demirovic react to the defeat in Freiburg.

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “We’re not happy at all – first and foremost with the result, but also with the way the match panned out. We defended the first balls really well for 70 minutes but as time went on we struggled to deal with the dangerous second and third balls. Our attacks didn’t give us the respite we needed. At the end of the day, we didn’t create enough with the ball. A lot of the time our build-up play didn’t make it beyond the initial stages.”

Atakan Karazor: “We defended really well up until the 81st minute. We kept all their set pieces away from our goal and won every aerial duel. Our new players settled well and gave everything for the team. One criticism that we have to accept is that we didn’t get forward enough to relieve the pressure on us at the back. The game turned on its head late on because we stopped defending well and stopped doing the basics. We’ll have to analyse it with cool heads.”

Ermedin Demirovic: “We defended really well up until the closing stages and I didn’t have the feeling that the game would slip from our grasp. That makes the result all the more painful. We should have executed our pressing with more energy during that period and put our opponents under pressure. We’ll address our mistakes head on, especially because we’ve experienced situations like this before. We need to do better next week.”
