Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “We started the match really well and created a few chances, but then you could see there was a certain dip in our performance. Gladbach were better at times. We put them under increasing pressure in the second half, albeit without really creating any clear-cut openings. The fact we scored our goal from a quickly taken corner shows that the boys are alert and can take advantage of situations like that. The boys defended the lead passionately together and got their reward with the win. The fans’ tifo was extraordinary – it was incredible inside the stadium.”
Chema Andrés: “I’m very happy and proud of our team. I’d been told just how special the occasion was today for the club and the fans, so the fact that I could make my Bundesliga debut, score a goal and win was just fantastic. The team did really well and we deserved to win. Overall, I’m really happy to be here. The team welcomed me really warmly. I just want to keep working hard so that I can develop step by step.”
