Sebastian Hoeneß: “We deserved to win, so my players deserve a lot of praise following all the travelling we’ve done and the unfortunate outcome of the game in Rome. The match could have panned out differently given the early penalty we conceded, so we’re very grateful to Alex that he kept it out. We weren’t sharp enough at the start and we needed a little while to get into the game, but after around 20 minutes we got increasingly better. From then on it was a really good match from us. We’re all pleased that things are going so well right now. We’ve got a good spirit in the team and a lot of faith in our squad.”
Jamie Leweling: “I wasn’t feeling great today, but as an attacker you’re fortunate that you can still rescue your game with a goal. I have to say a big thank you to Alex Nübel and Ramon Hendriks today, as they prevented Gladbach from going 1-0 up with the penalty. After some difficult weeks, the whole team played a role in this win today.”
Deniz Undav: “We knew what to expect. Alex’s penalty save helped us to get into the game better. We won a lot of challenges, kept the tempo high and used our chances. The chemistry within the squad is even better than it was last year. We’ve got more quality and energy overall and now we want to continue the good run we’re on.”
