Sebastian Hoeneß: “A lot of the things we set out to do came off in the first half. The performance in the first 30 minutes was really good, and it’s a deserved win. You can single out Atakan Karazor and Jeff Chabot here, who may not have been directly involved in any goals but initiated some of them well. The belief and the conviction are now immediately back. We want to draw strength from that for the coming weeks.”
Jamie Leweling: “We’ve often produced good performances here recently but never won, so the big win today feels very good. We were sharp from the first minute and sensed that the three points were there for us. We took our chances going forward and Alex protected the lead with his saves at the back. It was a top performance from the whole team. Now we want to build on this against Frankfurt on Tuesday.”
Deniz Undav: “We’re glad that we finally managed to win here and get the three points. We knew that Leverkusen would switch and run a lot, and we were able to exploit that with our man-to-man marking. Our first four shots on goal – five if you include the offside goal – went in, which settled the contest early for us. Leverkusen also had good chances but the luck was on our side today.”
