“End our winless run at home“

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß gave his thoughts going into the penultimate Bundesliga matchday of the season.

VfB Stuttgart’s Bundesliga Matchday 33 assignment against FC Augsburg on Sunday (kick-off 19:30 CEST) marks the team’s last home game of the current season. Sebastian Hoeneß’s side travel to Leipzig for the final league match of 2024/25, before the DFB Cup final against Arminia Bielefeld in Berlin.

Home win in sight?

“We’re aiming to produce a really good performance, which should lay the foundation for us to finally end our six-game winless run at home,” said Hoeneß. “We want to take maximum points and play well to get ourselves into the best shape possible for the cup final.”

With that in mind, Augsburg will push VfB to their limit. The teams have already met twice this season, with Stuttgart earning narrow 1-0 wins both in the first half of the league campaign and in the DFB Cup quarter-finals.

“Augsburg have had an impressive second half of the season,” said Hoeneß. “They’re an awkward team to play against, they’re usually very clinical and they defend with clear movement patterns.”

Enzo Millot back, Ameen Al-Dakhil absent

The tactician confirmed that Deniz Undav will start against Augsburg, while Enzo Millot has returned to full training after recovering from injury and is a candidate for a place in the matchday squad.

However, injured sextet Ameen Al-Dakhil, Leonidas Stergiou, El Bilal, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Anrie Chase and Luca Raimund are all unavailable.
