Record against Leipzig

Looking back: Three wins on the spin
VfB’s most recent win over Leipzig was a 3-1 victory in the DFB Cup semi-final at the beginning of April, with Angelo Stiller, Nick Woltemade and Jamie Leweling getting the goals. They also won the corresponding league fixture in January, triumphing 2-1 thanks to efforts from Jacob Bruun Larsen and Woltemade.
Both league games last season produced comfortable home wins as Leipzig prevailed 5-1 in August 2023, before VfB got their own back with a 5-2 success in front of their own supporters in January 2024. Enzo Millot, Deniz Undav netted a hat-trick with Enzo Millot and Leweling also on target in Stuttgart’s first win over RB.
Leipzig struggles: RB looking to avoid new low
With 51 points after 33 games, Leipzig are enduring the second-worst Bundesliga campaign in their history after 2017/18, when they had 50 points at the same stage. They are in danger of missing out on Europe altogether for the first time.
Record in sight: ‘Medo’ eyes personal best
VfB striker Ermedin Demirovic scored his 14th Bundesliga goal of the season against former club FC Augsburg last time out, leaving him one goal shy of his tally of 15 for FCA last term. Nine of the Bosnian’s 14 goals have come away from home – only Mainz 05’s Jonathan Burkardt (ten) has found the net more often in away games this season.
What the coaches say: Bosses hope to end on a high
Sebastian Hoeneß: “They'll want to achieve something in their last home game. They're a very good side with a lot of power and speed. It's a big task but we want to carry our momentum on..”
Zsolt Löw: “We sat down at the start of the week and talked. The lads know what they have to do against Stuttgart - they are determined to sign off with a home win for the fans, and that's exactly the attitude we expect of them.”
Personnel: Angelo Stiller and Yannik Keitel ruled out
Enzo Millot, who came off the bench and scored the third goal against Augsburg, will be recalled to the starting line-up against Leipzig. It comes after both Angelo Stiller and Yannik Keitel suffered injuries in that match. The midfield pair join Ameen Al-Dakhil, Leonidas Stergiou, El Bilal, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Anrie Chase and Luca Raimund in the treatment room. Finn Jeltsch is also doubtful, while Justin Diehl will again feature for the U21 team – who are looking to secure survival in the 3. Liga on Saturday – as he builds up his match fitness following injury.
Attendance: Away end sold out
VfB will be backed by at least 4,735 fans in Leipzig.
