Record against Eintracht: Last defeat in Frankfurt six years ago
Overall: 122 games. 52 wins, 25 draws, 45 defeats. 221:210 goal difference.
In the Bundesliga: 103 games. 44 wins, 23 draws, 36 defeats. 188:175 goal difference.
The last time VfB lost a Bundesliga match in Frankfurt was back in 2019. Since then, the boys from Cannstatt drew 1-1 three times prior to winning 2-1 last season.
Looking back: Drama in the reverse fixture
Frankfurt took a 3-0 lead at the MHP Arena in the first half of the season, but VfB refused to give in and clawed two goals back through Josha Vagnoman and Nick Woltemade. Chris Führich thought he had netted the equaliser in the last minute of stoppage time, but it was ruled out for offside.
Woltemade and Demirovic in good form
Nick Woltemade has had a direct hand in four goals in his last five Bundesliga outings, scoring three himself and setting up another. In fact, with five goal involvements in the second half of the season, he has been VfB’s most dangerous attacker of late. The forward also hit a hat-trick during the week in a 3-1 win over Spain with Germany’s U21s.
Ermedin Demirovic, meanwhile, has found the net in VfB’s last two Bundesliga games (against Leverkusen and Kiel). The forward has one goal and five assists from his nine Bundesliga matches against Eintracht, which is more direct goal involvements than he has against any other club.
What the coaches say
Sebastian Hoeneß, VfB head coach: “We want to taste victory again. The fact is it’s going to be a fierce contest. It’s always lively at Frankfurt, even more so at 18:30 on a Saturday.”
Dino Toppmöller, Frankfurt head coach: “Woltemade is a great player. I like the way he plays football, but Stuttgart have a lot of qualify players. We’re going to have to defend as a team.”
Attendance: Sold-out away section
VfB will be joined in Frankfurt by 4,800 fans.
