Pre-match facts: Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. VfB

VfB return to action after the international break with a trip to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday afternoon (15:30 CEST). Here are the facts and figures on the Foals.

Record against Gladbach
Overall: 110 games. 44 wins, 30 draws, 36 defeats. 176:152 goal difference.
In the Bundesliga: 104 games. 43 wins, 30 draws, 31 defeats. 171:139 goal difference.

What the coaches say
VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß
: “In Kevin Stöger and Tim Kleindienst, Borussia have two new players in their starting XI compared to last season. They are two very good players who we know well, have had a big impact in their games so far and have played a role in their turnaround. Gladbach look a different side overall. You can sense a feeling of optimism. Something always seems to happen at Borussia-Park. There’s a good atmosphere there, so we have to be at our best.”

Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach Gerado Seoane: “VfB have sold important players, but we don’t want to dwell on the past. Stuttgart’s style of play hasn’t changed much since last season. We’ll try to work our way into the game by being compact and forcing them into errors.”

Goals
Three of VfB’s four league goals so far have come in the opening 15 minutes – more than any other side.

Both of Nick Woltemade’s two Bundesliga goals to date have come against Gladbach. The 22-year-old scored twice for former club Werder Bremen in a 2-2 draw against the Foals on Matchday 32 last term – one with his right foot, the other with his head. That was Woltemade’s only previous appearance against Borussia.

Tough tacklers
The second and fourth most successful tacklers in the Bundesliga this season meet on Saturday, namely VfB defender Jeff Chabot (84.2%) and Gladbach’s Luca Netz (78.6%). Amadou Haidara (RB Leipzig, 88.9%) leads the way, with Anton Stach (TSG Hoffenheim, 78.6%) and Willi Orban (RB Leipzig, 76.9%) completing the top five.

Personnel
Nicolas Nartey, Leonidas Stergiou and Ameen Al-Dakhil remain sidelined, and Frans Krätzig is a doubt after returning from international duty with a calf muscle issue. Anthony Rouault is back in full training and therefore in contention for a place in the matchday squad.

Attendance
VfB will be backed by at least 4,961 supporters in Mönchengladbach. Tickets for the away end will not be available at the ground.
