Mateo Klimowicz makes Mexico move permanent

The attacker will not be returning to VfB following his one-year loan spell and will continue to play for Mexican club Atlético San Luis on a permanent basis.

VfB Stuttgart and Mexican club Atlético San Luis have reached an agreement over the transfer of Mateo Klimowicz. The 23-year-old has been on loan at San Luis since the beginning of this year, and has now made his move there a permanent one.

Klimowicz, whose contract in Stuttgart was due to run until 30 June 2025, scored two goals in 52 competitive appearances for VfB between 2019 and 2022, spanning 40 in the Bundesliga, seven in Bundesliga 2 and five in the DFB Cup. He also had a loan stint at Arminia Bielefeld before making the move to Mexico.

VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth: “Both Atlético San Luis and Mateo himself were very interested in making the loan a permanent transfer. The corresponding discussions quickly led to an agreement, meaning Mateo’s transfer to San Luis has now been completed. We wish Mateo and Atlético San Luis a successful future together.”
