Shifting gears

On the penultimate day of the training camp, Waldemar Anton sums up pre-season so far with VfBTV, and is eager for a win to round things off on Saturday.

Waldemar Anton is one of the first players at breakfast and also among the first out on the training pitch, pushing himself to the limit with great focus at VfB’s training camp. “We’ve had a really intensive week,” the defender said. “We’ve worked very well and very hard, which is the way it should be. But we’ve also had fun and some nice moments off the pitch too. On Saturday we’ve got another friendly and we want to give it our all and hopefully win. It’ll be a tough game, but we’ll have to go beyond our limits and give everything.”

Time away from the pitch during training camps does not only revolve around football or performance-related meetings; team events and fan evenings are also vital. “It just gives you a chance to see how people tick and think, and everyone can get involved – that’s really important,” said the VfB vice-captain. “During games you often don’t have time to have intensive discussions or to talk about different scenarios. But here in the training camp we do have the opportunity to do that at the end of each training session. We'll take everything we've done here together with us and look forward to the new season.”
