Anrie Chase to join VfB

The 18-year-old Japanese central defender will link up with the U21s this summer.

VfB have made their first signing for the 2022/23 season, with Anrie Chase agreeing a long-term contract that will come into effect on 1 July 2022. The 18-year-old Japanese with American roots is currently playing for Shoshi High School, a club in Japan where he is also an U23 international. Last autumn, the 1.88-metre central defender spent two weeks on trial with VfB.

“Anrie came and trained with us for a fortnight and showed us what he was made of during that time,” said academy director Thomas Krücken. “He is a solid defender who can win duels and is at his strongest when it’s one-on-one. As well as his physical attributes, he has good speed and passes the ball well. We’re delighted that he believes in what we are doing here and has chosen to follow a development path with our U21s.“
