“I’m really looking forward to the new season”

Head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo on the DFB Cup tie at Dynamo Berlin and the start of the new campaign.

Pellegrino Matarazzo on…

…positive coronavirus cases in the squad:

“Sasa Kalajdzic is doing well – he’s training at home on the spinning bike. The other two players, Tanguy Coulibaly and Nikolas Nartey, had mild symptoms but are already training again in quarantine.”

…goalkeepers Florian Müller and Fabian Bredlow:

“We signed Flo Müller as a number one. Fabi is allowed to challenge him, of course. We as a coaching staff haven’t decided yet who will play at the weekend.”

…Silas’ return:

“Silas will return to Stuttgart in three weeks – we’re in regular contact. I have the impression that he’s working well and on the right track.”

…his thoughts on the new season:

“It’s similar to the start of last season: there’s excitement and a slight tingling but there are no expectations. It’s like a blank canvas that we want to paint as beautifully as possible. I think it’s important to start the season well and then see how we grow with each game and every result. I’m really looking forward to the season. It’s definitely a positive feeling.”

…cup opponents BFC Dynamo:

“Dynamo have different weapons, such as long balls. They have a great striker in Christian Beck. He’s experienced, he’s good at getting on the end of balls and he’s a huge threat and extremely strong in the air when it comes to crosses into the box. Dynamo are compact in defence and try to keep the spaces tight.”
