Quarter-century association with VfB

Daniel Didavi progressed from youth talent to seasoned Bundesliga professional at VfB. His time at the club comes to an end this summer.

Daniel Didavi set out in 1997 to realise his dream of playing professional football. That year, he moved from his hometown club in Nürtingen to Bad Cannstatt.

Twenty-five years have passed since then. During that time, the midfielder went through the VfB youth teams before making his debut for the first team in the Bundesliga in 2010 at the age of 20. He’s worn the shirt with the hoop in nine of his 12 years as a professional, along with a season-long loan at 1. FC Nürnberg (2011/12) and two years with VfL Wolfsburg (2016 to 2018).

Didavi has made 184 Bundesliga appearances (46 goals) in total, 113 of them for VfB (24 goals). The 32-year-old’s contract expires this summer.

VfB expresses its sincere thanks to Daniel Didavi for his commitment and loyalty over decades, and wishes him all the very best for his future.

Sporting director Sven Mislintat:

“Dida came to VfB as a little boy and now leaves as a man who has given the club a huge amount, not just on the pitch. Dida has always identified with VfB, the staff, the fans and the whole region. The doors at VfB will always remain open for Dida, we wish him all the best for his future and sincerely thank him for his many years in the VfB shirt as a youth player and professional.”

Daniel Didavi:

“We’ve experienced a lot together – unforgettable moments like the recent survival but also some painful ones. It’s meant a lot to me every second I’ve worn the VfB jersey and played in front of these fans. Now a new chapter begins for me, but VfB will always be in my heart.”
