Nicolas Gonzalez leaving VfB

The 23-year-old forward is finalising a move to ACF Fiorentina in Serie A.

After three years at the club, Nicolas Gonzalez is leaving VfB Stuttgart. The 23-year-old forward is moving to Fiorentina in Italy with immediate effect, subject to final formalities.

The Argentinian came to Stuttgart from boyhood club Argentinos Juniors in summer 2018 at the age of 20. Gonzalez has developed into an Argentina international during his time at VfB. He made his debut for the ‘Albiceleste’ on 13 October 2019, and has since scored two goals in seven appearances. The left-footer started in the opening two group matches against Chile and Uruguay at the Copa América, which is currently taking place in Brazil.

Gonzalez made a total of 79 appearances in all competitions for VfB (45 in the Bundesliga, two relegation play-offs, 27 in Bundesliga 2 and five in the DFB Cup) and scored 23 goals.

Sporting director Sven Mislintat:

“Nico became an Argentina international at VfB, which is an honour for both him and us as a club, and shows that VfB is a very good destination for ambitious players. From a footballing point of view, of course we would’ve liked to have seen Nico in a VfB shirt for longer. But as we all know, these are exceptional times for the football industry due to coronavirus, with financial factors taking on even greater importance. This transfer brings important revenue for VfB, which is why we agreed to the move. We thank Nico for his time at VfB and wish him all the best for the future.”
