Florian Müller joins VfB

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until 2025.

VfB have recruited a new goalkeeper, with Florian Müller moving to Stuttgart from 1. FSV Mainz 05 on a four-year contract until 30 June 2025. The 23-year-old will wear the No. 1 jersey.

Müller has made 73 Bundesliga appearances to date for both Mainz and SC Freiburg, where he was on loan last season. The shot-stopper played 31 times for SCF in 2020/21, keeping six clean sheets. Before that, the former Germany youth international made 42 Bundesliga appearances for Mainz following his debut at the age of 20 in March 2018. Müller has represented his country at U19, U20 and U21 level.

“Florian Müller’s development in recent years has been impressive,” said sporting director Sven Mislintat. “His ability as a goalkeeper who is still young, his character and his mentality make him the perfect new signing. Florian has already made 73 Bundesliga appearances at the age of 23 and gained important experience at Mainz and Freiburg. We are very happy that he has committed to us and our journey, and that he wants to help continue VfB’s progress.”

“VfB have a strong, young team with a lot of potential for development. You could see that last season, when they had a very convincing campaign,” Müller himself added. “I’m extremely excited about this new challenge and the new season, where spectators will hopefully be back, at least partially. I can’t wait for pre-season to get started and to get to know the lads better.”
