“We want to show what we can do in Leipzig,” said Matarazzo ahead of Sunday’s visit to Leipzig (kick-off 15:30 CEST), which comes at the end of a busy week for his players. “We go there with the belief that we can be successful and produce a convincing performance. Our approach involves wanting to be unpleasant opponents.”
Matarazzo has been handed a boost on the personnel front with the return of Konstantinos Mavropanos, who missed Wednesday’s defeat to VfL Wolfsburg after picking up his fifth yellow card last weekend.
Having shown glimpses of their potential in the 3-1 loss to VfL, VfB are determined to earn a positive result on Sunday. “I saw effort from us, we were a unit out on the pitch and we also created chances,” said Matarazzo, who comes face to face with his former colleague Nagelsmann this weekend, having worked as his assistant at TSG Hoffenheim from January 2018 until summer 2019. “We’ve already been in touch this week,” added the VfB boss. “I’m looking forward to seeing him again.”
