Lilian Egloff was not with the rest of his colleagues as training got back under way today ahead of the 2021/22 season, with the midfielder having undergone an operation on his metatarsal on Thursday. Head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo will have to do without the player for the foreseeable future.
“We held out hope for a long time that we would be able to take a conservative approach to the injury and avoid surgery, but unfortunately there was no long-term improvement in his condition,” said sporting director Sven Mislintat. "It’s really tough for Li but at the end of the day, we all believe that an operation is the best course of action. Li will now be given all the time and support he needs from us to get through the recovery phase.”
