Borna Sosa gets German passport

The 23-year-old defender now has German as well as Croatian citizenship.

When Borna Sosa joined VfB from Dinamo Zagreb in summer 2018, he already had links to Stuttgart and Germany. His mother was born in the country, his grandfather had had a company in Ulm for 40 years and both his father and uncle had also worked there.

With all of these family ties, Sosa decided this year to take on German citizenship in addition to his native Croatian. Over the past few weeks, the naturalisation process followed it course and he has now officially been given dual nationality.

“The naturalisation process has personal reasons for me,” said Sosa after Friday’s win over Augsburg. “My mother was born in Germany, my grandfather has lived and worked here a long time and I spent a lot of time here as a child. I just feel at home in this country and that’s why I decided to take this step.”
