Pre-match facts: SG Dynamo Dresden vs. VfB

A round-up of the standout facts and figures ahead of VfB’s trip to Dynamo Dresden on Sunday (kick-off 13:30 CEST).

Record against Dresden

Overall: 15 matches, 5 wins, 7 draws, 3 defeats, 22:17 goal difference

In Bundesliga 2: 3 matches, 1 win, 1 draw, 1 defeat, 6:9 goal difference

Previous meeting

VfB won the reverse fixture 3-1 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena earlier this season. An own goal from the visitors after just three minutes and a strike from Santiago Ascacibar shortly before half-time gave VfB a 2-0 lead at the break. After Dresden pulled a goal back, Silas Wamangituka sealed the win in the 84th minute, just 22 seconds after coming off the bench.

Comeback for Dresden

This will be Dresden’s first game back since the league was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. Markus Kauczinski’s side only resumed training on Saturday following a fortnight in quarantine, and having missed the last three rounds of matches they will need to play all their rescheduled fixtures in June.

Familiar face

Dresden’s Dzenis Burnic laced his boots in Stuttgart for a season. The 22-year-old made six Bundesliga appearances and two in the DFB Cup for VfB in 2017/18.

Personnel

Holger Badstuber received his fifth yellow card of the campaign against Hamburger SV and is suspended for this game. However, Daniel Didavi and Atakan Karazor are both available again following bans of their own.

Gonzalez in form

Nicolas Gonzalez has scored three goals in the last three games, taking the Argentinian’s tally to nine for the season, as well as three assists. He has been involved in more goals than anyone else in the team, ahead of Didavi and Wamangituka.
