F.C. Hansa Rostock: Sunday’s opponents by numbers

Ahead of meeting F.C. Hansa Rostock in the DFB Cup for the third consecutive year, we take a closer look at VfB’s opponents.

Germany’s third division was created 12 years ago and Rostock have competed in it for nine of those seasons, including eight in a row. SV Wehen Wiesbaden, SpVgg Unterhaching and Rot-Weiß Erfurt are the only teams to have played in the league for longer. As such, Hansa are currently fourth in the division’s all-time standings, behind Wiesbaden, Osnabrück and Unterhaching.

Hansa have played five pre-season friendlies so far, winning three and losing two. They slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Bundesliga 2 side Holstein Kiel in their most recent outing.

6
The north German side finished sixth in the third division last season, and even ended the previous two campaigns in exactly the same position.

Hansa have signed nine new players so far this summer, while 13 have left the club – including midfielder Nikolas Nartey, who was there on loan from VfB.

Former VfB player Pascal Breier, who joined Hansa in January 2018, was the team’s sharpest shooter last season with 15 goals. Indeed, he is the club’s all-time top scorer in the third division with 53.

Goalkeeper Markus Kolke is the team’s most experienced player in the third tier, having chalked up 248 appearances for Wiesbaden and Hansa.
