SpVgg Greuther Fürth: Saturday’s opponents by numbers

Stuttgart are the only team in Bundesliga 2 to have won all three of their home games this season. On Saturday they face Greuther Fürth, the third-best away side in the division. We crunch the numbers on the team with the shamrock on their shirts.

With three goals apiece, Julian Green and Daniel Keita-Ruel are the joint-top scorers for the visitors from Fürth. Keita-Ruel has picked up from where he left off last season, when he was the side’s leading marksman with 10 goals in his first year after joining the club.

After losing at home to Erzgebirge Aue in their opening match, Fürth have gone five games unbeaten in the league (with three wins and two draws). Stefan Leitl’s side have picked up five of their points on their travels and go into Saturday’s clash at the Mercedes-Benz Area (13:00 CEST) as the third-best away team in the division.

Fürth have scored at least once in each of their last seven away trips. The last time they drew a blank on the road was a 1-0 defeat to Hamburger SV in early March.

Green has played the full 90 minutes in all six league matches this term, covering an average distance of 11.76 kilometres. Only five players in the second tier have got through more running at this early stage of the campaign – including VfB defender Pascal Stenzel with an average distance of 11.83 kilometres per game.

Aside from their one and only season in the top flight in 2012/13, Greuther Fürth have been permanent residents in Bundesliga 2 since their promotion under Armin Veh in 1997. This is the Shamrocks’ 22nd year in the second tier since then and 31st overall, which makes them the record-holders in the all-time Bundesliga 2 participation table ahead of Alemannia Aachen and St. Pauli, who have each played 28 seasons.
