1. FC Heidenheim: Sunday’s opponents by numbers

Tim Walter’s team are heading to 1. FC Heidenheim on Sunday (kick-off 13:30 CEST). Here are a few things you should know about Frank Schmidt’s men.

1

Heidenheim are the only second division club who came from behind to win on the opening day of the season. That 3-1 victory over newly promoted VfL Osnabrück puts FCH at the top of the Bundesliga 2 table for the first time in their history.

3

The win away to Osnabrück saw Heidenheim win their third match in a row across two seasons – the longest winning streak for Schmidt’s team in Bundesliga 2.

5

In what was their fifth season in the second division, Heidenheim picked up 55 points last season, scoring 55 goals and finishing in fifth spot. All three of those stats were the best that the club had achieved in their history, with the team finishing just two points shy of SC Paderborn and Union Berlin, who finished second and third respectively.

12

In September, Schmidt will have been head coach of Heidenheim for 12 years. The local-born 45-year-old is by far and away the longest-serving coach in either of the top two flights in German football, with Christian Streich next up after eight years at the helm of SC Freiburg.

394

With 394 matches (166 of them in Bundesliga 2), Marc Schnatterer is not only the player with the most appearances for Heidenheim, but also their top scorer with 118 goals (and 116 assists to boot).

11,000

An average of 11,000 fans attended each of the 17 Heidenheim home matches last year at the Voith-Arena, which has a capacity of 15,000.
