Karlsruher SC: Sunday’s opponents by numbers

For the first time in two-and-a-half years on Sunday, VfB will play host to KSC in a local derby in the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Here are some of the key stats on our recently-promoted local rivals.

1

Karlsruher picked up their first and only away win to date on the opening day of the season, defeating fellow promoted team Wehen Wiesbaden 2-1. In seven away matches thus far (one win, two defeats and four draws), KSC are averaging a point a game on their travels.

2

After two seasons spent in the third tier, Karlsruher SC made it back into Bundesliga 2 last May after two years under head coach Alois Schwartz.

5

Karlsruher have come from behind to take a point in each of their last five league matches.

5

Karlsruher have lost their last five league meetings with VfB by two goals, twice going down 2-0 and three times losing 3-1. The last time that KSC took so much as a point against Stuttgart was back in September 2007.

22

Karlsruher SC have not recorded a win in any of their past 22 visits to Stuttgart. Indeed since 1965, Karlsruher have managed to take a point away to VfB just twice, in 1987 and 1990 when they recorded a pair of 2-2 draws. VfB have won the 11 home derbies since then.

28

With an average age of nearly 28, Karlsruher SC have the oldest squad in Bundesliga 2 along with Erzgebirge Aue. VfB meanwhile have an average age of around 25, making them one of the youngest outfits in the second tier.
