Maxime Awoudja joins VfB

VfB Stuttgart have signed Maxime Awoudja from FC Bayern Munich.

The 21-year-old centre-back has signed a three-year deal with the Cannstatt club which runs until 30 June 2022, and will wear the number 37 shirt. Awoudja moved from his hometown club SpVgg Thalkirchen to the Bayern academy at the age of nine, rising through the ranks up to the Under-23 side. He made a total of 49 appearances for Bayern’s reserve team, providing eight goals and three assists and helping them achieve promotion to the third division in May. The Munich-born defender has also represented Germany four times at Under-19 and Under-20 level.

Sporting director Sven Mislintat:

“We believe Maxime has the potential to quickly develop into a valuable defensive option for us. He has a good physique, he’s technically strong and he’s determined to establish himself at VfB. We’re very pleased that Maxime has decided to sign for us.”

Maxime Awoudja:

“I would like to thank FC Bayern for the 12 years that I’ve been able to play there. This is now the start of a new chapter for me at VfB Stuttgart, a big club with great tradition. I’m looking forward to the challenge. I want to find my feet as quickly as possible and help the club achieve their goals.”
