Berkay Özcan joins Hamburger SV

The 20-year-old midfielder, a VfB youth academy graduate, made a total of 46 competitive appearances for the first team in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and DFB Cup. Özcan also helped the club win the Bundesliga 2 title in 2017, thereby earning immediate promotion back to the top flight.

Managing director Michael Reschke:

"After coming through the youth academy at VfB, Berkay made the step up to the first team and it was a difficult decision for us to allow him to leave. The transfer came about at his request because he is absolutely determined to become a first-team regular as a professional. After careful consideration we have reached the decision to allow him to move on. We thank Berkay for his efforts at VfB and wish him all the best for his career."

Berkay Özcan:

"I came to Stuttgart as a youngster and was able to fulfil my dream of becoming a professional footballer here. I'm grateful to everyone who accompanied and supported me along the way at VfB. The positive memories I have of the club, and of course the fans, will stay with me forever. I wish the team all the best for their upcoming games and I'm sure they'll pick up the points they need."
