After eight years at the club, Timo Baumgartl has left VfB Stuttgart and moved to Dutch Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven. The 23-year-old joined the Cannstatt club in summer 2011 and enjoyed great success with the youth teams, winning the Under-17 Bundesliga in 2013. One and a half years later, on 8 November 2014, Baumgartl made his first-team debut in an away match at Werder Bremen. He went on to become a key figure in the team that won promotion back to the Bundesliga in 2017.
In total, Baumgartl made 86 top-flight appearances for VfB, as well as 29 in Bundesliga 2, six in the DFB Cup and 23 for the club’s U21 side in the third tier. His performances have also earned him international recognition and he was part of the Germany U21 squad that recently finished runners-up at the European Championship.
Sporting director Sven Mislintat: “Timo is a perfect example of how you can successfully make the step up from youth to first-team football at VfB. Because of the performances he’s produced for VfB, he deserved for us to speak openly and respectfully about his desire to move and his future career path. We’ve agreed to his request to move to PSV Eindhoven, thank him sincerely for his many years of service to VfB and wish him all the best in his personal and footballing future.”
