Sasa Kalajdzic suffered a serious knee injury in the friendly against SC Freiburg. He underwent tests in Stuttgart the day after returning from Schruns in Austria, with the results being that he had a ruptured cruciate as well as tears to a ligament inside the knee and to the exterior cartilage.
The operation that he needs will be carried out straight away, and it is likely that Kalajdzic will be out for six to eight months.
"This is really tough news for Sasa and of course for us," said Head of sport Sven Mislintat. "In the short time since he joined VfB, Sasa had managed to adapt to his new surroundings very quickly and looked very impressive both in training and in the friendlies. The injury is a shock to all of us and it’s going to take us a while to come to terms with it. Sasa will get the support he needs from all of us to get through this tough period in his burgeoning career."
