Learning process

Midfielder Atakan Karazor assesses the season so far as he prepares to meet his former club for the first time on Sunday.

Karazor will come up against a former club when VfB welcome Holstein Kiel to the Mercedes-Benz Arena on Sunday (kick-off 13:30 CEST). “I had two good years in Kiel, I made a lot of good friends and I’m looking forward to the game,” said Karazor, who moved from north to south in the summer.

The midfielder has since made eight appearances for VfB in Bundesliga 2 and one in the DFB Cup. “We got the season off to a good start with the home win against Hannover and I also got some positive feedback on my performance,” said the Essen-born 23-year-old. “Since then, it’s been a bit up and down for me. Maybe I put too much pressure on myself. I’m still in a learning process. Everything’s bigger here at VfB, from the stadium to the reach on social media. I still need to get used to one or two things.”

After the recent 2-1 defeat at home to SV Wehen Wiesbaden, Karazor admits there’s a “certain pressure” to get back to winning ways. “For us, it should be a case of ‘want’ not ‘must’. We want to go into the match with clear heads. That way we’re better,” he said.
