"Enrich the point with three more"

Under the floodlights this Friday evening, VfB will be looking to celebrate their first home win of the season, when they take on Fortuna Düsseldorf. Victory is “the absolute goal” according to VfB head-coach Tayfun Korkut.

The situation ahead of the clash with newly promoted Fortuna Düsseldorf does little to change the ultimate objective for head-coach Tayfun Korkut, who made it clear: "We have a home game and we want to win every home match we have. We require that of ourselves – regardless of which opponent or in which situation."

The team have been focusing on achieving just that over the past two weeks. "We are all really looking forward to the home game and want to secure the win." However, the coach warned of the dangers of considering the newly promoted side‘s qualities being purely defensive: "They also have a very clear structure going forward.“ In all three of their Bundesliga games thus far, Fortuna took a 1-0 lead. „Even if they take a cautious approach, we must create enough pressure on the offensive," insisted Tayfun Korkut.

Three goals and plenty of positive moments in Freiburg

"We want to enrich the point we took in Freiburg with three more in front of our own fans on Friday night." Aside from a good basic atmosphere in the dressing-room and clear homogeneity within the team, the coach has also taken many positives from his side’s reaction to the early setback in the Baden-Württemberg derby clash with SC Freiburg. In Breisgau, VfB battled back with amazing support from their fantastic fans. „The fact is, we scored three goals, had plenty of positive moments and we took a point back with us from Freiburg. That’s something we want to build upon and then take the next step by securing a win."

Tayfun Korkut must compensate for three absentees

For the Cannstatt Boys second home game of the Bundesliga season, they will most likely have to make do without the services of Marc Oliver Kempf and Borna Sosa. "Marc is not quite far enough along following his muscle-sinew tear," explained head coach Tayfun Korkut on the injury suffered by the central-defender a fortnight ago. Similarly to before the Freiburg match: "Borna Sosa is struggling with a blockage in his back, which puts him out of the picture again," explained Korkut. The possible involvement of Daniel Didavi, who is currently afflicted with an Achilles tendon problem, remained in doubt on Wednesday. "Daniel participated in parts of team training. That is a slight improvement," commented the 44-year-old on his midfield playmaker.
