Since serving the team exceptionally well during the 2-1 home win over Werder Bremen three weeks ago over the full ninety minutes, Daniel Didavi's Achilles tendon problems have been slowly improving, but the injury continues to limit the 28-year-old midfielder's competitiveness.
As to when the number 10 will be an option again is currently unclear. The medical department surrounding team-doctor Dr. Raymond Best are doing all in their power to get Daniel Didavi fully fit again as quickly as possible.
Team doctor PD Dr. med. habil. Raymond Best:
"Daniel's Achilles tendon problems are not necessarily dangerous, but they are persistent and tedious, which means we must deal with them very meticulously. The important thing is that the injury is completely healed and that we only then reintegrate him into full team training again when he is fully fit. Daniel is handling this frustrating injury very professionally, but he is of course extremely eager to help the team again as soon as he possibly can. Here in the medical department, we must at times put the brakes on."
Several weeks on the side-ines for Borna Sosa
For Borna Sosa, extensive examinations have confirmed the diagnosis of the beginnings of a stress fracture in the upper public-bone region. Subsequently, the 20-year-old Croatian must prepare for several weeks on the side-lines. The worst-case scenario is that Borna Sosa will not be available to VfB again until the New Year.
Marc Oliver Kempf, Dennis Aogo and Anastasios Donis on the mend
There is however more positive news on Marc Oliver Kempf, Dennis Aogo and Anastasios Donis. Marc Oliver Kempf and Dennis Aogo are both closing in on a return to full team training following their thigh muscle-sinew injuries. For Dennis Aogo, involvement this Saturday (18:30 CEST) in Hoffenheim remains a possibility. Following his thigh muscle-bundle tear, rehabilitation is going according to plan for Anastasios Donis. However, the Greek international will not be available for the games against TSG Hoffenheim and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Alexander Meyer, who incurred a partial tear to his frontal cruciate ligament during pre-season preparations, is also working on his comeback. A return to full team training for the 27-year-old VfB goalkeeper is planned for the beginning of the New Year.
