The Bundesliga table-toppers are coming to Stuttgart. On Saturday, VfB play host to Borussia Dortmund. Here we have all the important facts and figures on the home clash with the league leaders.

Additional meetings

VfB and BVB have locked horns on five previous occasions in the DFB Cup on five previous occasions. Twice it was the side from Cannstatt that progressed to the next round, with Borussia Dortmund winning three. The last cup clash between the two sides was a 3-1 win for Dortmund in February 2016.

Looking back

The last Bundesliga meeting between the two sides ended in favour of Borussia Dortmund. In the Signal Iduna Park, VfB were left licking the wounds of a 0-3 defeat. The last time BVB visited the Mercedes Benz-Arena however, there was a more positive result for the hosts. In November 2017, the side in the shirts with the infamous hoop ran out 2-1 victors. Thanks to goals form Chadrac Akolo and Josip Brekalo, the fans in the capacity filled Mercedes-Benz Arena celebrated VfB's 500th home win in the Bundesliga.

Goals galore

Traditionally, there are plenty of goals scored when VfB and Borussia Dortmund go head-to-head. Since the 2007/08 campaign, there has been just one score-less draw (2012/13). In some 25 Bundesliga clashes between the two sides, the fans were treated to at least five goals. The highest scoring meeting between the two dates back to 1995, with VfB losing 3-6 to BVB.

Familiar faces

In Gonzalo Castro and David Kopacz, there are currently two former Borussia players under contract at VfB. Whilst David Kopacz made the move from BVB's Under 19s to Stuttgart in the summer, Gonzalo Castro wore the infamous yellow and black of Dortmund in the Bundesliga on 72 occasions between 2015 and 2018 - scoring six goals and providing 15 assists. Castro went on to win the DFB-Cup with BVB in 2017. Dzenis Burnic and Jacob Bruun Larsen both returned to Dortmund this summer, having both spent one-year loan spells with VfB. Jacob Bruun Larsen made four Bundesliga appearances for the Wasenelf, with Dzenis Burnic donning the shirt with the infamous hoop six times.
