Opposition profile: Focus on Eintracht Frankfurt

Form

After registering five successive wins in all competitions (against Hannover 96, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga and against SS Lazio and Apollon Limassol in the UEFA Europa League), Eintracht rescued a 1-1 draw at 1. FC Nürnberg last Sunday thanks to Sébastien Haller’s 92nd-minute equaliser. The Eagles, who finished eighth last season, go into Matchday 10 in seventh place with 14 points so far (4W, 2D, 3L).

Goalscorers

In Haller (six goals, six assists) and Luka Jovic (seven goals, one assist), the Hesse club have two of the 2018/19 campaign’s most prolific marksmen in their ranks. In Eintracht’s recent 7-1 win against Düsseldorf, 20-year-old Jovic became the youngest player in Bundesliga history to score five goals in a single game.

Former fan favourites

Filip Kostic wore VfB colours from 2014 to 2016, scoring eight goals in 59 league appearances for the club. The winger has featured in all the Eagles’ Bundesliga and Europa League games so far this season. Fredi Bobic, who represented Stuttgart as a player over two spells (1980-1986, 1994-1999) before taking on the role of sporting director (2010-2014), has been an Eintracht board member since 2016.

New arrivals

In Kevin Trapp (Paris Saint-Germain), Frederik Rönnow (Bröndby IF) and Felix Wiedwald (Leeds United), Eintracht signed no fewer than three goalkeepers over the summer. They also secured the services of 31-year-old Nicolai Müller (Hamburger SV), while Evan N’Dicka (AJ Auxerre), Allan Souza (Liverpool), Francisco Geraldes (Sporting Lisbon), Goncalo Paciencia (FC Porto) and Lucas Torró (Real Madrid) all arrived from foreign shores.
