Alexander Meyer suffers partial cruciate-ligament tear

Alexander Meyer suffered a partial tear to the frontal cruciate-ligament in his left knee during training. The 27-year-old goalkeeper will subsequently be unavailable to VfB for several months. Surgery is required to correct the damage and will be conducted shortly.

VfB Sporting director Michael Reschke:

"We all feel very sorry for Alex. Such an injury is a bitter blow for the affected player in particular and naturally also for us. We wish Alexander Meyer all the possible strength he needs for the imminent period of rehabilitation and we will naturally support him any way we can throughout."

For the extent of Alexander Meyer’s absence, Florian Kastenmeier from VfB’s reserves will take a place in the professional squad.
