A further absentee and a glimmer of hope

Having broken his nose, Benjamin Pavard will no longer be available to VfB this year. Simon Terodde remains a possible option for the DFB-Cup game.

The footballing year old 2017 is now over for Benjamin Pavard. The French international battled through until the end of the home game against FC Bayern Munich, after which a more extensive examination revealed that the defender had broken his nose. The 21-year-old will undergo surgery at the beginning of the coming week and will thus not be an option for the DFB-Cup clash with 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Tuesday (kick-off 18:30 CET).

For Simon Terodde, there remains some hope of making fitness for the clash with the club from the banks of the Rhine. The striker was forced out of the game against Bayern in the 47th minute with bruised ribs. Further examinations have revealed the extent of the damage to the 29-year old’s ribs was less serious than initially feared. It remains now to be seen as to whether the pain will have subsided by Tuesday.
