Match-facts VfB vs. VfL Bochum

For the home game on match-day 24, coach Hannes Wolf’s men play hosts to VfL Bochum. The game at the Mercedes-Benz Arena gets underway at 18:30 CET on Friday evening. Here we’ve put together the facts, figures and statistics ahead of the clash with Bochum.

Record from the VfB viewpoint (considering all previous Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga meetings):

Total: 65 games, 33 wins, 17 draws, 15 defeats, 114:81 goal-difference

Home: 32 games, 23 wins, 5 draws, 4 defeats, 78:38 goal-difference

Away: 33 games, 10 wins, 12 draws, 11 defeats, 36:43 goal-difference

Further clashes

Aside from the 65 Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga meetings, the clubs have also gone head-to-head in the DFB-Cup on five previous occasions – of which the Cannstatt Boys won three.

Familiar faces

From the Bochum squad, Tim Hoogland, Stefano Celozzi and Kevin Stöger have all previously worn the jersey with the infamous red hoop. Tim Hoogland spent one season on loan in Stuttgart from Schalke 04 during the 2012/2013 campaign. Stefano Celozzi was at VfB between 2009 and 2012. Kevin Stöger learned his trade in the VfB youth teams, parting company with the Bundesliga team in 2015. There are also two former VfL players in the Stuttgart squad – strikers Daniel Ginczek and Simon Terodde. Daniel Ginczek was on loan in Bochum during the 2011/2012 season, whilst Simon Terodde was in Bochum from 2014 until making his move to VfB last summer.

On the ball

VfB have played the second highest number of passes in the '2. Bundesliga' this season (10,818), with 76,9% of them finding their intended destination. The Wasenelf also boast the most effective use of chances in the second-flight and the most goals scored thus far (40).

Home strength

VfB have won eight of their last nine matches, with Simon Terrode scoring eleven goals in the club’s last seven home games. If he is to score against Bochum, he would be only the second ever VfB player (after Karl Allgöwer), to score in eight consecutive home games.
