Alexandru Maxim made the move to VfB from Romanian club Pandurii Targu Jiu in January 2013, playing his first Bundesliga match in the shirt with the infamous red hoop on February 23rd, 2013. In the Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga, DFB-Cup and UEFA Europa League, the attacking midfielder made 131 competitive appearances for the Wasenelf, scoring 17 goals. In the recently completed second division season, Alexandru Maxim made 25 appearances, scoring five goals.
VfB would like to take the opportunity to thank Alex for his years of service in the VfB colours and wish him all the very best for his future.
VfB Sporting director Jan Schindelmeiser: "It was the express and very personal wish of Alex to make a change and take on a new challenge. During the course of last season, which was an anything other than easy campaign for Alex, he served the team and the club in exemplary fashion and had a significant role to play in VfB making an immediate return to the Bundesliga. Not least for that reason, we agreed to grant his wish for a transfer."
Alexandru Maxim: "I had a wonderful four and a half intensive years at VfB. The club and the city mean a great deal to me and will always have a special place in my heart. That also applies to the VfB fans, who always got behind me. The time had come for me to make a decision about my future career. I decided to take on a new challenge at a new club and I am very happy that we could find this solution along with VfB."
