VfB sign Alexander Meyer

VfB have secured the services of Alexander Meyer. The goalkeeper makes the move to Stuttgart from Energie Cottbus and has signed on until June 30th, 2019.

So far this season, the 26-year-old has featured in all five games for Energie in the 'Regionalliga Nordost' (fourth division), whilst also playing in the DFB-Cup first round clash with VfB Stuttgart. The 1,95 meter tall keeper learned his trade in the U17 to U19 (23 games) youth teams at Hamburger SV, before progressing to the north German side’s reserves (ten games). In 2012, Alexander Meyer moved to TSV Havelse, for who he played in 92 competitive matches before moving on to Cottbus last season.

Michael Reschke, Sporting Director at VfB Stuttgart:
"
Alexander Meyer is the ideal solution for us as a replacement for Mitch Langerak. Our goalkeeper-trainer Marco Langner has had an eye on him for some time. The positive impression made by Alexander Meyer has since been confirmed in the cup match and his performances with Energie Cottbus in the league. We are delighted to have completed the signing of Alexander Meyer and welcome him warmly into the VfB family."

Alexander Meyer:
"
For me, the move to VfB Stuttgart, and thus into the Bundesliga, is a childhood dream come true! I have always believed in that goal and worked hard to achieve it. Now I am very excited about this new challenge."
