It was an ideal start to this World Cup year for Germany, as they defeated Ghana 2-1 in a friendly in front of 52,000 fans in Stuttgart’s MHP Arena. Alexander Nübel and Angelo Stiller were in the starting line-up, while Deniz Undav came on at half-time and Chris Führich (in place of Florian Wirtz) and Josha Vagnoman (for Stiller) were introduced on the hour mark.
Ghana equalised in the 70th minute, Kai Havertz (45‘+3) having put Germany ahead just before the break. VfB striker Undav then bagged the winner in the 88th minute to the delight of the crowd, sealing the 2-1 final scoreline.
“It was brilliant to hear how much the fans were behind me, I love that,” VfB striker Undav said of the win over Ghana. “It was great for me to come on and score the winning goal. It was a perfect evening.”
