Woltemade scores one, sets up two

Germany beat Czech Republic 4-2 in their second group game at the European Under-21 Championship. Nick Woltemade played the whole 90 minutes, getting a goal and two assists.

Germany followed up their opening UEFA European Under-21 Championship win against Slovenia with a 4-2 victory over Czech Republic on Sunday evening, clinching their place in the quarter-finals with a group game to spare. “That was our main goal today,” said VfB striker Nick Woltemade, who not only played the entire match but set up goals for Paul Nebel and Eric Martel either side of his own effort – a header to make it 3-0 early in the second half. “I’ve been working a lot on my heading at VfB lately. Goals like that make me really happy. They’re the result of hard work on the training pitch.”

“Tough game ahead of us”

Germany take on defending champions England in their final group game in Nitra on Wednesday. “Reaching the quarter-finals is really nice,” Woltemade added. “Now we have another tough game ahead of us against England. We can be proud of ourselves today – it was a good performance. We have the potential to achieve something big at this tournament, but we also know everyone has to give their all in every game. The entire team plays a part.”
