What a start for Nick Woltemade and Germany’s U21s in Nitra! The team defeated Slovenia 3-0 in their opening UEFA European Under-21 Championship group game, with VfB’s Woltemade the standout player, bagging all three of his side’s goals (20’, 42’, 83’ pen.).
“Important for us and for the fabric of the team”
“That was a crucial and very good start for us, and to score three goals obviously feels really good,” said the VfB forward after the match. “It’s good for us to get the tournament under way. I’d only played in one tournament prior to this and it feels amazing. The win is important for us and for the fabric of the team. We showed today where we’re at.”
Germany will next take on Czech Republic on Sunday 15 June at 21:00 CEST in Dunajska Streda.
