Seven VfB players in World Cup qualifying

Four VfB players will be in the Germany squad for World Cup qualifying in early September, with another three also in action for their respective countries and looking to make it through to the tournament in North America.

After their UEFA Nations League campaign, Germany are now kicking off their bid to qualify for next summer’s World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico, starting with a trip to Slovakia and then a home tie against Northern Ireland. Coach Julian Nagelsmann has called up Angelo Stiller, Alexander Nübel, Maximilian Mittelstädt and Jamie Leweling for the two matches.

Switzerland are taking on Kosovo and Slovenia, and have Luca Jaquez and Leonidas Stergiou in their squad, while Serbia have picked Lazar Jovanovic for their matches against Latvia and England, and Bosnia and Herzegovina have selected Ermedin Demirovic for their clashes with San Marino and Austria.

Germany U21s also in action

Finn Jeltsch is part of the Germany U21 squad who will be playing a friendly and a EURO qualifier. Leny Meyer (Switzerland) and Christopher Olifour (Austria) will also be involved in qualifiers for the tournament, which will take place in two years’ time.
