Leweling gets another cap

Fourteen VfB players are currently on international duty, some of them playing friendlies, others involved in the UEFA Nations League or World Cup qualifying. Here’s a round-up of how they fared, including Jamie Leweling’s appearance in Germany’s 2-1 win over Italy.

Germany bring a lead home from Italy

Germany won their Nations League quarter-final first leg away to Italy 2-1 on Thursday night. Goals from Tim Kleindienst (49’) and Leon Goretzka (76’) turned the match around after the home team had taken a 1-0 lead. Jamie Leweling came on in the 66th minute for Nadiem Amiri, while Alex Nübel, Maximilian Mittelstädt, Angelo Stiller and Deniz Undav were unused substitutes.

Turkey won their Nations League play-off first leg 3-1 over Hungary in Istanbul. Atakan Karazor did not make it off the bench, and the same applied to Ameen Al-Dakhil, whose Belgium team fell to a 3-1 defeat in their play-off first leg against Ukraine, which was played in Murcia.
