The friendly relations between VfB Stuttgart and the Atlanta Falcons have grown stronger in recent years, with the two clubs not only sharing a passion for sport but also a sponsor in Mercedes-Benz. Last year, VfB legend Cacau was connected live to the NFL Draft in Detroit, announcing the selection of JD Bertrand for the Falcons – an occasion which strengthened the bond between Stuttgart and Atlanta even further.
Earlier this year, Stuttgart Surge were crowned European League of Football champions for the first time, underlining the region’s passion for American football.
Cacau in the thick of things
The Falcons’ involvement in this year’s NFL Germany Games was the perfect opportunity to further cement the close ties between the two parties, with Cacau travelling to Berlin on Friday to take part in the Falcons’ fan activities ahead of their encounter with the Indianapolis Colts. At the Falcons Flag Football Clinic, the 44-year-old managed to get his own hands on the ball and meet Falcons legends Jessie Tuggle and Todd McClure.
On Saturday, he paid a visit to the ‘Falcons Haus’ at the Fotografiska Berlin, which served as a meeting point for fans and allowed them to learn more about the history of the club. Cacau not only spoke to supporters from all over the world but also took part in little challenges, which made for a joyous atmosphere among the football fanatics.
VfB legend talks up special bond
Cacau also took part in several interviews with the press. Speaking to the Bundesliga’s media partners, the former Germany international talked about the special bond between VfB and the Falcons.
Sunday was game day at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. The atmosphere at the stadium was electric, with Colts and Falcons fans determined to make the most of the special occasion. The Colts may have emerged victorious but the spectators – including Cacau – were gripped until the very end, enjoying every last second of a memorable encounter.
Part of the Falcons’ family
The weekend was a huge success, not only in sporting but emotional terms too. Cacau was delighted to have been part of the Falcons’ family once again, and to have been given another opportunity to represent the close ties between Stuttgart and Atlanta.
